The first half of the story divulges Osnath’s experiences as she lives in Jesse’s house and of her interactions with Eliab, the elder brother, and with David, the future King of Israel. very good read. Although it is fiction this book is a good view of the possibilities. It helps to understand people of the bible where as humana a the rest of us.
Very informative of the life that Ruth would have had. I like how the story progresses into the families that came after her.
A must read for biblical historical fans. It honors women while creating a real world of emotions and humanity that is often left out in biblical accounts of heros and heroines.
Read this before and forgot. But a good read
excellent condition but the storyline was not what i was expecting. it is a mix of present day and a "time jump" into the time of Ruth and Boaz
I really enjoyed reading this intricate fiction, including the really sexy scenes as well as the "loving." ones. I did not find expanded understanding of the Biblical story, nor of life in those Biblical times. But maybe I'm prejudiced on that score, having spent lots of time exploring women in Biblical history.
My one issue with this book is that the language is distracting. I can understand that this is an issue whenever an author tries to elicit a time and place for the reader, and that time and place does not involve language that has anything to do with modern English. I think she was trying to use some King James-ish language with the idea that it would cause people to think of biblical times?
Other than that, this is a great yarn. The stories and characters are rich and complex, woven through a few different generations. The mysteries of family history keep you engaged and curious until the last few pages. It's much more accessible than, say, The Red Tent because of its focus on interpersonal relationships rather than setting and historical details. The author seems to intentionally not mention details of housing structures and anything that would get in the way of the reader's engagement with the story. It results in a much different story. Overall, this is a very engaging book that will make you think about the way people relate to each other and the way history is recorded.
