Subalusky is right on target with his extremely well written book the Observant Eye. I too am a product of the nuclear submarine force and the nuclear industry and can tell you without any reservation that the observation techniques discussed in this book are the best skills a manager can use to truly know what's going on with his/her people. Bill Subalusky does an excellent job describing the benefits of and how to critically observe performance. He should know - he's an expert at it. I commend this book to any manager or management team seriously interested in improving performance. While the techniques can be useful in any industry, they are particularly applicable to complex businesses where human errors must be minimized to prevent serious consequences.
Excellent book on the observation process and how to be effective and help others the most. Well written.
I am using this book at work to train my staff on how to do performance based assessments in the nuclear industry. There is no other book or course out there that covers how to do this job.
A great read and so relevant to anyone in the safety oversight business. As time passes and those of us who learned from the best fade off into the sunset, it is crucial the principles Mr. Subalusky describes so well are passed on. His description of what it takes to communicate an observation in a compelling way is worth the price of the book. I see very few who do this well today.
