I use this personally as a yoga instructor, and as a resource for my trainees when I lead teacher trainings. It's easy to navigate and extremely complete. The postures are in alphabetical order based on Sanskrit name. There is also a visual table of contents in the front, organized by posture category. If you don't know the name of a posture, you can browse the small thumbnail images and find it with relative ease.

This book doesn't try to do everything for everyone. It's literally just a series of very effective ways of navigating the book, plus pose names, pictures, and lists of cues for creating and deepening the shape with safety. Little anecdotes and notes from Darren are scattered throughout. Nonetheless, it's one of the richest resources on postures you'll ever find. It's a great example of "less, but better."

Darren's way of cuing postures is sometimes uncommon, but incredibly effective and full of insight. Take your time and study what he has created. There is a ton to glean here.

Beware Version!!!!

The Version is ONLY A SAMPLE CHAPTER, not the entire book. I was very disappointed to open my new "book" and find it was the same sample that I could browse for free.
If you are an aspiring teacher or a yoga enthusiast, Darren's book is a must have. It's a great companion to Iyengar's Light on Yoga, and the way the book is organized is so helpful for pose studies. BUY THIS BOOK!
Excellent resource for Yoga teachers and students.
Good photos and descriptions include Sanskrit asana names.
got the kindle version only because i live overseas and didn't want to deal with shipping charges. wish i got a print version, and have it as a reference book in my practice space to browse and look up poses
I use this manual every week. I have a app on my Mac and when I sit down to create my yoga class sequences I open this manual at the same time on my computer. I get great ideas from the photos of each category of poses; i.e., standing poses, and then specific sequencing ideas for preparatory poses by reading Darren's explanation of the apex pose I intend to use. The videos for some of the poses are an added bonus. My classes are so much stronger and helpful because of this manual. Of course, I also have it downloaded on my Fire and consult it regarding my own practice. Great resource!
The video to show how this e-book is useful on your PC is misleading. The videos of the poses and Sanskrit name pronunciations are not available on the PC version featured in the video. The PC version video shows how the e-book works via Inkling rather than . The Inkling version no longer exists yet, this is the version they show on their product page. The version is no more helpful than the hard copy version of the book that I already have. It is misleading to show how the PC version works using the defunct Inkling version. I would return it for my money back if I could. I emailed the author's website that sells the e-book a request to remove this misleading "for the PC" video.
There are many books on Asanas. This is one of the best. The pictures are very clear about how you are to assume the pose. The angles presented in the photos is carefully set up so that you get the most comprehensive idea about what, exactly, is involved in each pose.

The text is written on three levels; each level takes you progressively deeper into the pose.

Occasionally, Darren Rhodes throws a little inspiration into his descriptions, gently urging you to try a little harder, to go a little deeper.

This is a reference book. The poses are easy to find in a variety of ways. Many of these kinds of books leave you searching endlessly for the information you want. Not this one.You'll find yourself dipping into it frequently. It is very well done.
