Lair of the Lion Christine Feehan Books

Another old world story set in Italy like The Scarletti Curse but this one has many similarities to The Beauty and the Beast, which the author did on purpose and I love it. I think I may like this one better than the other one.

It has elements of everything that makes a good paranormal ghost story and I found myself smiling and laughing whenever they teased each other.

This may have been a shapeshifter book but it isn’t like her other books, even The Scarletti Curse, it was something different and I loved it. It could have been just a straight up illusion but the author made it come to life.

I really love the fact that Isabella was the hero here. It’s not often that we get a female hero that doesn’t have the help of her man, except for the Drake Sisters. I especially loved that they didn’t stick to tradition and she basically allowed him free reign without freaking out.

This was full of emotion, the writing was so good that I could feel what Isabella was feeling. The pace is a tad bit slow to get going but good and the writing just pulls the reader in.

Lair of the Lion Christine Feehan Books Reviews

I just discovered Christine Feehan not too long ago with her Dark Series and decided to read this since it was a stand alone book and it could be read without having to read a prior book. While this is a fantasy romance and so unbelievable in its storyline the characters are beautiful and "normal" if you see them in the right way. I give this book 5 stars because it drew me in so that I felt a part of this extended family - rather than looking from the outside in, I lived it with them. I walked through passageways in the castle, into the forest and the countryside. I felt the comfort of the entire castle and the grounds and the familiarity of those that lived there. Anyone who wants to escape from their daily life and exist for a short time in another realm would enjoy this. It is definitely FOR mature readers since there is a lot of "explicit" romance. If you have no problems with this in your reading then I highly recommend this book.
I first read Lair of the Lion in its first release in 2002. I re read again about 6 yrs. ago. I rated it on Goodreads 4 stars but never wrote a review for it. Well I have downgraded Lair of the Lion to 3 stars and this is a generous 3 stars. I couldn't remember much of what the book was about even after reading it two prior times. That says a lot. I am a die hard Feehan Fan. I had to ask myself why I didn't remember most of this story?

My problem with the story is the curse on Don Nicholai De Marco's family wasn't really fleshed out. We know that a De Marco was cursed by his wife Sophia just before he had her beheaded for infidelity. A bit of Anne Boylen story I guess. I would have like just a little more back story. Isabella is what? A sensitive person she can feel evil and she doesn't see Nicholai for what he really is? More information about her abilities would have been nice. Just what makes her different then anyone else? His people seem to know what he is an refuse to look upon him. Isabella is always being stalked by the evil or evil person in the palazzo. She gets in trouble chapter after chapter. I think I have more questions running in my head after my 3rd time reading this story. I have excused a lot becasue this is one of Christines Feehan's earlier works. That's probably why I didn't write a review before now. I still don't know what to really make of this story. Isabella travels in adverse circumstance to Don De Marco's land to seek help. Her brother Lucca is being held prisoner by another Don. To free her brother she agrees to marry him. I liked all of the characters and I enjoyed the plot twist at the end. The story reminds me a bit of Beauty and The Beast. The story on a whole was just OK in my opinion. It is a Stand Alone book. This is not a series.
This is not only the first Christine Feehan novel I have read but also the first Paranormal Romance novel. Lair of the Lion is a paranormal romance between a very strong selfless woman and a powerful Don who has the ability to change into a Lion.

The premise of Lair of the Lion is a type of Beauty and the Beast story. With an evil curse, a beautiful castle in a secret valley that folklore and haunted stories that are told in the secrets of the night to scare little children to bed. It is rumored that a powerful Don, Nicolai DeMarco, could command the heavens, that the beasts below did his bidding and that he was doomed to destroy the woman he took as wife. It was whispered he was not wholly human untamed with his tawny mane and slashing amber eyes. When the impoverished aristocrat Isabella Vernaducci traveled to see the Don and would defy death itself to rescue her imprisoned brother she never imagined that the bargaining chip would be her very soul. She’d brave anything to save her brother including the haunted, accursed lair of the lion—the menacing palace of legendary, lethal Don Nicolai DeMarco. Then she meets the man whose growl was velvet, purring heat, whose eyes held dark, all-consuming desire. And when the don commanded her to become his bride in payment to save her brother, she went willingly into his muscled arms, praying she’d save his tortured soul and not sacrifice her life.

I really liked this story. Christine Feehan is a very creative writer who kept this romance reader entertained and deeply engrossed in this book. The sensual level I would grade a nine. The right blend of hot and sizzling passion with a very good story along with very likable characters. Highly recommend this book.
